Basel Kora Course

A display of koras and other African string instruments curated by kora player and teacher Josh Doughty, showing the diversity of West African music.

The Basel Kora Course has been running for over ten years, offering four weekends each year dedicated to learning, playing, and exploring the kora.

Each weekend focuses on technique, repertoire, and improvisation, while creating a supportive space for players to learn together. The course welcomes both beginners and continuing students, with each session building on previous weekends.

Teaching is led by Josh Doughty, continuing the tradition passed down through his teacher Toumani Diabaté, and aiming to share the kora’s depth and beauty with care and authenticity.
